Patient Rights
1. Patients have the right to receive quality health services.
· Health services must be provided to all people caring human dignity, all values and beliefs regardless of any kinds of discriminations in terms of ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, and illness.
· Health services must be provided as fast as possible considering patient time restrictions.
· Patients must receive quality services in emergency cases regardless of costs.
· Health services are provided according to legal guidelines in non-emergency cases.
· If it is not possible to offer appropriate services in emergency cases, patients must be transferred to another hospital after receiving emergency services and sufficient information.
2. Sufficient information must be provided appropriately.
· Patients must be educated about their treatments process.
· Several factors such as patients’ characteristics, level of education, language, pain, and stress must be regarded in providing information to the patients at the right time.
· Patients have the right to access all the information in their clinical case and they can ask to get a copy of it. They also have the right to ask for corrections on errors in their clinical case.
· Sufficient information must be given to the patients in terms of legal guidelines, costs, therapeutic and non-therapeutic services, insurance, and supporting systems before admission.
3. Patients have the right to make decisions about the offered health services without any pressure.
· Patients have the right to select the center and physician offering health services they need according to legislations and legal guidelines.
· Patients have the right to ask for a second opinion or consultation with another physician.
· Having received sufficient information, patients have the right to be given enough time to make appropriate decisions.
4. Privacy and confidentiality must be considered for all patients.
· All the information in patients’ clinical cases must be kept confidential. Confidentiality of the information can be violated just in cases with legal permission.
· Patients have the right to receive required facilities to keep their privacy. Patients’ privacy must be respected in all stages of the treatment process.
· Information of the patients’ clinical cases can be accessed only by the patient him/herself, treatment team, and legal authorities.
· Patients have the right to be accompanied by someone trustworthy in all stages of the treatment process including diagnosis and examination.
5. Patients have the right to access a legal system to file lawsuits.
· If patients see their rights are violated while receiving medical treatments, they have the right to file a lawsuit. It is required to mention that this legal process must not distort the quality of the health service provided to the patients.
· Patients have the right to be given information about the legal process of their lawsuit.
· Medical errors occurred while offering health services must be compensated as fast as possible according to legislations and legal guidelines.
